Subsidence Underpinning
  Subsidence
Particularly in the South East of England many homes are founded on clayey subsoil's and are liable to subsidence and heave when the clays shrink and swell with variations in moisture content.

The cause of this movement is normally due to tree roots or drainage defects although there are numerous other causes.

This is usually referred to as subsidence.

Heave is the opposite of subsidence and occurs when moisture is released back into previously desiccated soils.

Most domestic properties in the UK are, subject to a policy excess, covered by insurance for this type of damage.

In order that you can make a successful claim on your policy, it will be necessary to prove to your insurers that the damage is both serious and progressive.

Springett Associates can carry out a detailed structural engineer’s survey and prepare the necessary reports on possible subsidence.

Your insurer may ask for a period of monitoring of cracking (usually for 6 to 12 months). This can be carried out by this Practice.
